Fun baking fact: German Chocolate Cake is not actually German.
It’s named after a man named Sam German, who invented a sweet baking chocolate while working at Baker’s Chocolate Company in the 1800s.
But he didn’t invent the cake itself — in 1957, a Texas woman submitted her recipe for “German’s Chocolate Cake” to a Dallas newspaper and the rest is sweet history.
The traditional recipe is incredibly rich, with butter, sugar, eggs, chocolate, and buttermilk, plus a coconut-pecan filling and frosting with even more butter, sugar, eggs, evaporated milk, and coconut.
Luckily for you, our resident recipe magicians created a superfood shake with Cookies & Creamy Shakeology that recreates the indulgent, decadent flavor of German Chocolate Cake — and unlike the cake, you can have this cake shake every day!
